Based on my experience in the public education system and conversation with school leaders, educators, parents, lawmakers, and others interested in strengthening our public schools, I believe there are four areas that demand the Superintendent of Public Instruction's most immediate attention:
- Future Common Core Standards that ensure North Dakota values are safeguarded, and economic and job market conditions and students needs are addressed.
- Seek relief from No Child Left Behind through creation of systems that work for North Dakota.
- Empowerment of local school leaders to address the challenges in their districts.
- Fulfillment of the mission of ND public schools - ensure that our students prosper and flourish by graduating students who are all college and career ready.
