  • Microsoft, state of ND form 'Digital Alliance'

    FARGO – North Dakota’s governor and Microsoft officials announced a public-private partnership Thursday that a company official said will help narrow the “opportunity gap” for young people who lack access to technology education, especially in rural areas.

    The “Digital Alliance” – touted as the first of its kind in the country – will bring Microsoft training and resources to the state’s students to boost skills in education, employability and entrepreneurship, with a specific focus on science, technology, engineering and math.

    (WDAY TV) -- The State of North Dakota is partnering with Microsoft for a groundbreaking program - the first of it's kind across the nation.

    It's aimed at helping students with college readiness, and learning 21st century skills.

    Katie Lange: The joint effort is known as the Digital Alliance.

    No Child Left Behind took Americans to school and taught us our schools, teachers and students are failing. The proof, we are told, can be found in the results of standardized tests. This is despite that North Dakotans take pride in their schools, believing they do a good job.

    When the Obama administration gave states the opportunity to get a waiver from the K-12 education mandate, the Tribune editorial board and many North Dakotans wanted the state to opt out of No Child Left Behind.

  • State Superintendent Announces Revised ESEA Flexibility Waiver Application to go before Secretary Duncan and Executive Committee

    Kirsten Baesler, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, announced today that the state’s flexibility waiver application of certain provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) will be reviewed by U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, and the Executive Committee without North Dakota making any further revisions. The flexibility waiver application was originally submitted on September 6, 2012 with a revision submitted on December 27, 2012.
