The Senate voted in favor of the Every Student Succeeds Act, which rewrites the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act.
Under the new legislation, power over education policy is back in the hands of the states.
“Gone are the days of excessive federal intrusion,” said Jon Martinson, North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders director.
State education officials are excited to have control over North Dakota’s education policies, but are not ready to make changes.
